On Deleting Connections

Deleting a connection is never easy, but especially is you've been connected for a long time. So, how do I do it? Keep in mind that I'm guilty of deserting my city without so much as a goodbye. Obviously, I'm not the only one, so the first thing I do is look at my connection report and visit all the cities with a “0” report. I check the Mayor message, making sure when it was last updated. If it's been over a year, I look at the city badge so I can estimate the last time they were active. If that's over a year, then I look at their wall. If there is no recent wall activity, I know that they are okay to delete. My next to final act is to click “Explore.” If I get cash, I delete the city, because by my estimates, I've been paid enough money to delete that city. If I get nothing or a souvenir, then I keep them until I do another connection report.

Each time I do it, I check everything again. If I get money, I delete, otherwise I keep them. I do a connection report about every 3 weeks, but I'm not particularly religious about it. I make a point to not leave a message on their wall, because, face it: It's not very likely they will see the message anyway. If they return, they can reconnect if they want. I never turn down a connection request. Not now, anyway. If I ever get back up to 980 or so, then I might not connect with everyone, but that's a long time from now. If I get one pop a week, it's better than nothing, for now at least.

I'm not sure what I’ll write about next... So many ideas!

Welcome!

Let me start off by introducing myself: I go by the name of Merry, and I have an affection (or, rather, obsession) with the Facebook game, Metropolis, or Metro, for short. It started in 2008 and I restarted my original city several months later, when I realized that I had messed up by not returning favors and setting my taxes too low to run it. I became hooked shortly thereafter.

All went well until my mother died unexpectedly in December 2012. I avoided my computer and Facebook for months on end, and stopped playing Metropolis. My life was a mess, and I had no time to focus on anything but myself. I managed to have enough common sense to leave my city on Entertain and my taxes were at 20%, so when I returned in mid-October 2014, not only were my citizens happy, but I had a large chunk of money in the city coffers. I started out by paying to POP my connections and then hand popping all the non-connected cities on my feed and sending connection requests to former connections that had disconnected me. I didn't realize there was a limit of 20, but I found out fast! Finding out about External Metropolis (playmetropolis.net) made my life simpler, and I connected faster. Now I'm almost back to where I was in connections. I even helped my husband, Derek, start a city, and he's got 600+ connections! He started his city on November 28, 2014 and is doing well with my guidance.

Soo... What is this blog about? Obviously Metropolis, but mostly it will be about cities that don't return favors, what I look for in a city before I consider connecting with them, things that confuse me and piss me off about fellow Mayors, and so on. I will use city names for the ones that never return favors, but things that piss me off about a Mayor will be just that: Things that piss me off. It will not have the city name, nor the Mayor's name. I will also share names and cities that make me happy and why. I'll try to have at least one positive thing to even out the negative things. Naturally, this will not be unbiased, because it's my opinion. Getting butthurt will do you no good. Voicing your objection/opinion politely will result in a polite response. Trolls belong under one of the many bridges that Metropolis has, and I will gladly tell them which one to go under and why.

My first subject (next blog) will be about disconnecting from cities.
Bye for now!
